Melbourne Renegades have signed Bangladesh fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman for BBL|16, Cricket Australia reported on 4 November 2026. The 31-year-old left-armer, who has played 271 internationals across all formats, replaces Jason Behrendorff, who will miss the season after shoulder surgery. It is Mustafizur's first Big Bash contract.
What Was Announced
Mustafizur becomes just the third player from Bangladesh to feature in the BBL, after Hobart Hurricanes leg-spinner Rishad Hossain and allrounder Shakib Al Hasan. Behrendorff, the fourth-highest wicket-taker in BBL history, was ruled out earlier after surgery.
"Mustafizur is a proven match-winner in T20 cricket all over the world," Renegades head coach Luke Ronchi said. "His ability to take wickets in both the Powerplay and at the death is exactly what we wanted in our attack."
Mustafizur has taken 423 T20 wickets at a strike rate of 16.9 in 331 games. He has 121 wickets across nine Bangladesh Premier League campaigns and has played eight editions of the Indian Premier League, winning the title in his debut season with Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2016. In June he took 3/27 in Mirpur as Bangladesh took an unbeatable 2-0 lead in their ODI series against Australia.
"I am looking forward to playing in the BBL for the first time with the Melbourne Renegades," Mustafizur said. "It will be special to play at the MCG as my home ground."
The Renegades' BBL|16 squad so far, as listed:
- Michael Archer

- Jason Behrendorff
- Michael Bracewell (New Zealand)

What It Means
Mustafizur will miss the Renegades' season opener against Perth Scorchers in Chennai because of his commitments with Dubai Capitals, but he is likely to be available for the rest of the tournament. He joins Bairstow and Bracewell as the club's international players, and the Renegades have now filled 16 of their 18 list spots.
