Zimbabwe beat Bangladesh by 99 runs in the first match of the United Arab Emirates Tri-Nation Series at the Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi on 17 October 2026. Craig Ervine, named player of the match, made 93 off 106 balls as Zimbabwe posted 271/8, and Bangladesh were bowled out for 172 in 33.4 overs.
How It Unfolded
Zimbabwe won the toss and chose to bat first. Ervine and Brendan Taylor carried the innings: Ervine hit nine fours in his 93, and Taylor made 81 off 101 balls with ten fours. Newman Nyamhuri (21 not out off 17 balls) and Wellington Masakadza (21 not out off 15) added quick runs at the end. Taskin Ahmed was the pick of the Bangladesh attack with 3/44 from his ten overs, while Saif Hassan took 2/17 and Shoriful Islam 2/47.
Chasing 272, Bangladesh never settled. Tanzid Hasan struck 46 off 38 balls with nine fours and a six, but no one else passed 26. Saif Hassan made 26 and Rishad Hossain 23 before Brad Evans cut through the order with 4/45 in 6.4 overs. Masakadza (2/18), Sikandar Raza (2/28) and Blessing Muzarabani (1/23 from eight overs) kept the pressure on throughout.
The Oracle's Call
The CricMind Oracle made Bangladesh clear favourites before the toss, at 81% to Zimbabwe's 19%, so this call was a miss. By the model's own numbers the result was an upset: Bangladesh were eighth in the Oracle's ODI ratings and Zimbabwe twelfth, and Bangladesh led the head-to-head 38-15 across 53 ODI meetings. The full Oracle call sets out every factor, and every graded call stays on the Oracle report card.
