Australia fast bowler Megan Schutt has been handed a two-match suspension for failing to adhere to requirements around the use of prescription medication, Cricket Australia announced on 22 October 2026. Schutt, 33, has accepted the penalty and apologised.
What Was Announced
The suspension rules Schutt out of two matches:
- The third and final T20I against New Zealand at North Sydney Oval on Thursday 22 October.
- The Adelaide Strikers' opening game of WBBL|12 against Melbourne Stars on 31 October.
Cricket Australia said the breach was "a failure to adhere to requirements under the Sports Science and Sports Medicine guidelines with regard to prescription medication". The board said it related to a single incidence which occurred while out of competition and was not for performance-enhancing purposes.
"We will continue to provide appropriate support to Megan and reinforce the standards and responsibilities expected of everyone representing our game," Cricket Australia said.
In her own statement, Schutt said: "I fully accept the penalty handed down and apologise for failing to meet the standards expected of me. I'm sorry for the attention this has caused and appreciate the support I've received."
She added that while the incident occurred out of competition and was not performance related, she understood that she was responsible for following the guidelines, on which players receive regular education, and that she should have adhered to them.
What It Means
Australia lead the three-match series against New Zealand after winning the first T20I by two wickets and the second by 40 runs. All three matches were scheduled at North Sydney Oval, starting at 7:15pm AEDT.
Australia named a 14-player squad for the series, led by Sophie Molineux, with Ashleigh Gardner and Tahlia McGrath as vice-captains. With Schutt suspended for the final match, Australia had 13 other players in the squad to choose from.
For the Adelaide Strikers, Schutt will be unavailable for the start of their WBBL|12 campaign against Melbourne Stars on 31 October and will be eligible to return after that match.
